A North Mississippi Gal’s King Cake

Growing up in North Mississippi, I had never heard of King Cake until I left for college further south (Clinton is definitely far from the coast, but much more influenced by coastal culture). From the first bite of one though, I was hooked!
King Cakes vary about as much as accents across the Gulf of Mexico. I developed my version based on what I like – pastry like a cinnamon roll and filled with cinnamon, sugar, and just enough cream cheese for the flavor and moisture, but not so much that it gets messy. Glazed, then topped with beautiful, crunchy colored sugars. No baby included bc I’ve never felt the inclination.

Approximately 12 inches in diameter – about 16, 2 inch servings
