Cancer

One Down

Mom’s first chemo treatment last Thursday went as smoothly as possible. She handled everything like a champ, as evidenced by this picture:

When we left, she was pumped full of steroids, anti-nausea meds, and was enjoying a healthy appetite. We headed to Madison and waited for the kiddos to come storming in off the bus with hugs and questions for Grandma. (All the while, George had a fine day on our couch alternately watching the History Channel and napping.) A dear friend brought us dinner from Biaggi’s, and that meal hit the spot. We all feasted, relieved that the day was over. Everyone slept peacefully.

Friday consisted of a clinic visit for a Neulasta shot and an appointment afterwards to at Kirkland Hair Studio for a wig fitting. A quick What-a-Burger lunch (told you her appetite was healthy), and Mom and Dad headed back home to Eupora.

The main update for this week is that there’s really not much to tell. Other than a little fatigue and a decreased appetite, Mom has had no adverse symptoms from the first treatment – that feels really, really good to type! My favorite phone call was on Saturday morning, Momma said that she woke up at 2am and just had to cook herself some bacon and eggs – my heart smiled over that one.

I stop myself several times a day and thank God for the visible answer to prayer that we are getting to experience right now. I know that each treatment will be different, but instead of worrying about what the next one will bring, we rejoice that this one has been blessed.

I’ll close with a verse that keeps popping up on my radar. I hope that it pours over and sinks deep for someone else like it has for me again and again.

“My ears had HEARD of You, but now my eyes have SEEN You.” Job 42:5

Love to you all,
Devin
