Cast Iron Magnolia. Who Knew?

When I originally tiptoed into the world of blogging, it was at the urging of a couple of friends as a way for me to share recipes. When setting up the site, I wanted a name that was fun and perhaps a little meaningful. Cast Iron Magnolia popped into my head and wouldn’t go away. The name felt a little silly or melodramatic to me at that time, but obviously I went with it.

The reference to Steel Magnolias cannot be missed, and that was intentional. Southerness would ooze throughout my posts – people needed to know what they were getting into.[ I also want it to be noted that this blog was started well before any of us knew Chip and Joanna 🙂 ] The fact that I wanted to post recipes made Cast Iron fit perfectly. Done.

What I didn’t know when I started was that blogging recipes is not all that easy. Especially remembering to take pictures of the food. Therefore, this space sat mostly quiet for long periods of time. When mom was diagnosed, I wanted a way to communicate for her and a way for me to remember the journey. The blog came back to life, and its name took on another meaning. My mom was a “Cast Iron Magnolia”. Fast-forward to November 2016. I never ever thought I would be writing about myself. But, here we are. I want to live up to the name. I will.

Flash to the past – Why Cast Iron?

Love to you all,
Devin
