Faithfulness

“The Lord’s lovingkindnesses never cease, for His compassions never fail.
They are new every morning; Great is your faithfulness.”
Lamentations 3:23-24 NASB

Today redeemed “chemo day 6” for sure. This whole 4th cycle of Adriamycin & Cytoxan actually has as well. I haven’t sat down to think specifically of the outpouring of prayers my mom and our family has received lately, but if you put 2 and 2 together…

The Chemo infusion last Wednesday went very well. She did have to return to the clinic on Thursday for some blood products to give her a boost, but other than that, all was very smooth. She went home (as she insisted) late Thursday afternoon. Appetite has been remarkable, no mouth sores as of yet, and strength is returning – can I get an “Amen?”

We had an appointment with the surgical oncologist today. Other than a VERY long stay in the waiting room, the appointment was great. The tumors have shrunk a good deal, and Dr. Ley is very pleased with her progress. The plan is to do the surgery (mastectomy) after her chemo treatments are complete. If all stays on track, we’ll be looking at surgery sometime around the first of May (that includes a 3-week break before the procedure).

So, successful appointment for sure, but I was most impressed just laying eyes on my mother. Prior to the appointment, she and her precious “chauffeurs” met me at Saltine for lunch (mom wanted beef, all I could think to recommend was Saltine’s meatloaf – this worked out well for all of us :)). I did a double-take when Momma walked in the restaurant. Her color looked so good, she was walking with strength, and she was SMILING! Then she enjoyed her meatloaf, mashed potatoes, and collards (next time you’re in Fondren, try it, you’ll be happy). The stark contrast to two Mondays ago kept coming to mind. Two weeks ago, it looked like she could be at the depths of fatigue and weakness and without a spark for the rest of treatment – today that picture seems like a terrible joke. Again, there are no rose-colored glasses here, there will be hard days ahead for sure, but when you can be aware of HIS faithfulness in the midst of the faithfulness, what a blessing to behold.

“Great is thy faithfulness, Lord unto thee,”
Devin

Thanks for sharing this picture. She was having such a difficult time from the treatment last week; it’s just great to see her looking relaxed!
